Wedoany.com Report-Dec 25,A consortium including BP has won the rights to develop a 450MW wind farm off the coast of Japan in the country’s latest auction.

The rights to develop the fixed-bottom project located 2-5km off Yuza Town in the Yamagata Prefecture were won by the partnership made up of BP, Marubeni Corporation, the Kansai Electric Power Company, Tokyo Gas and Marutaka Corporation.

The scheme marks the entry of BP into Japan’s offshore wind market and is part of the country’s third auction round where a total of 1.1GW has been granted for development.

BP currently has a global development pipeline of 9.7GW and earlier this month announced an agreement with JERA to combine their offshore wind businesses.

The wind farm is scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2030.
