Tata Signs 200MW Hybrid PPA

Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 16, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with NTPC Limited, India’s leading integrated power company, to develop a 200MW firm and dispatchable hybrid renewable energy (FDRE) project. The initiative, located across various sites in India, is slated for completion within 24 months. It is projected to produce approximately 1,300 million units (MUs) of electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 1 million tonnes each year.

The FDRE project, secured through competitive bidding, integrates solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) technologies. A distinctive aspect of the project is its commitment to delivering a 4-hour peak power supply, maintaining at least 90% availability during high-demand periods. This feature ensures reliable energy support for distribution companies meeting India’s growing energy requirements.

A TPREL spokesperson stated: “This FDRE project underscores our dedication to providing sustainable and reliable energy solutions, contributing significantly to India’s renewable energy goals.” The initiative strengthens TPREL’s position in the renewable energy sector, bringing its total renewable utility capacity to 10.9GW.

Of this capacity, 5.5GW is currently operational, comprising 4.5GW of solar power and 1GW of wind energy. An additional 5.4GW is in various stages of development, evenly divided between 2.7GW of solar and 2.7GW of wind projects. These projects are expected to be completed in phases over the next 6 to 24 months, aligning with TPREL’s strategic expansion plans.

The collaboration between TPREL and NTPC highlights a shared commitment to advancing renewable energy in India. By combining diverse technologies, the FDRE project ensures efficient energy delivery, addressing both environmental and operational objectives. The project’s focus on reducing carbon emissions supports sustainable development while meeting the energy demands of distribution networks.
