Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 7, In a report released today, the American Chemistry Council (ACC) in Washington, D.C., announced that U.S. chemical production saw a slight increase in February 2025. The data highlights a positive trend in domestic output, despite varied performance globally.
“U.S. chemical production grew in February 2025, rising by 0.2% compared to January,” said David Lan, ACC’s Director of Economics and Statistics. “Output increased across most regions of the country, though the Gulf Coast faced challenges due to a late January snowstorm that temporarily halted operations.”
Globally, chemical production experienced a marginal decline of 0.1% in February 2025, according to Lan. The Asia-Pacific region contributed significantly to this downturn, primarily due to Lunar New Year celebrations, which led to temporary factory closures. Among product categories, specialty chemicals saw the most pronounced decrease.
In the U.S., manufacturing activity supported the rise in chemical output. Capacity utilization improved, and most segments, except basic chemicals, recorded month-on-month growth. Compared to February 2024, production levels showed notable improvement, signaling steady progress in the sector.
South America reported a year-over-year increase in chemical production, despite a slight monthly decline in February. Brazil, in particular, stood out with an 11.3% rise in output compared to the previous year, reflecting the country’s ongoing economic recovery.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the Lunar New Year significantly impacted production, especially in countries observing the holiday. While this contributed to the global decline, broader economic indicators, such as China’s Purchasing Manager Index (PMI), suggest potential challenges for growth in the coming months.
Europe, meanwhile, showed signs of recovery in February 2025, with chemical production rebounding after a weaker performance in January. However, ongoing softness in the region’s manufacturing sector could pose risks to sustained demand for chemical products moving forward.
The ACC’s findings underscore the complex dynamics shaping the global chemical industry, with regional variations driven by local economic conditions and seasonal factors. The U.S. continues to demonstrate resilience in its chemical sector, while global markets navigate temporary disruptions and longer-term uncertainties.
