Wedoany.com Report-Apr 1, U.S. crude oil production dropped significantly in January 2025, hitting a 13.15 million barrels per day (bpd) level, the lowest since February 2024, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA). This marked the largest monthly decline in U.S. oil output since January 2024.

The EIA also updated its estimate for record U.S. oil production in December 2024, lowering it by about 40,000 bpd to 13.45 million bpd.
Texas, the top U.S. oil-producing state, saw its output fall by 105,000 bpd to 5.58 million bpd, the lowest since March 2024. This was the largest monthly decline in the state since January 2024.
New Mexico, the second-largest U.S. oil producer, reported a 53,000 bpd drop in crude oil output in January, reaching 2.06 million bpd, the lowest level since July 2024.
Meanwhile, natural gas production in the U.S. Lower 48 states decreased by 1.7% to 116.3 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in January, down from a monthly record high of 118.3 bcfd in December 2024.
In Texas, natural gas output fell by 1.2% to 36.0 bcfd in January, while Pennsylvania saw a slight increase of 0.1% to 21.4 bcfd. Texas had set a record monthly production of 36.4 bcfd in December 2024, and Pennsylvania reached its peak of 21.9 bcfd in December 2021.
These figures highlight the ongoing challenges in U.S. energy production and consumption, with both oil and gas output experiencing notable decreases in January 2025.
