Wedoany.com Report-Mar 16, The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Philippines has completed a 73.01m pesos ($1.27m) road improvement project in Kabugao to enhance local connectivity.

The 1.56km two-lane road with drainage and slope protection supports local industries.

The project entailed the development of a 1.56km, two-lane paved road equipped with a drainage system and slope protection within barangay Madduang’s mountainous region.

DPWH Cordillera administrative region regional director Khadaffy Tanggol reported to DPWH secretary Manuel Bonoan that the project enhances access to barangays Madduang, Dagara, and Maragat.

Tanggol also reported that the past infrastructure gaps hindered economic activities and caused isolation during the rainy season.

Tanggol said: “This road development project will significantly boost the local economy by facilitating the transport of agricultural goods, such as rice, corn, and coffee, as well as supporting industries like blacksmithing, handicrafts, and furniture-making.”

DPWH is also progressing with the widening and improvement of Saturnino R. Silva Road in Carmen, Davao del Norte, aiming to improve road safety and ensure smoother, faster travel for motorists and residents.

DPWH Regional Office XI director Juby Cordon reported that the project involves upgrading the road’s two existing lanes and adding two more, with 92.53% concluded.

The 570m road project also includes concrete sidewalks, bike lanes with kerbs and gutters, and line canals and concrete catch basins installation to strengthen its resilience against extreme weather conditions.

Cordon said: “This access route is an essential road link going to the town corridors of Davao del Norte. However, due to its proximity to Sadpudon Creek, the area has become prone to frequent flooding, disrupting travel and causing damages to the communities adjacent to the road.

“The upgrading of Saturnino R. Silva Road is part of the Build Better More programme of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr focused on strengthening local road networks that play crucial roles in supporting agriculture and economic development across regions.”
