Wedoany.com Report-Dec 14,Brazil’s Federal Senate has passed the country's offshore wind bill, sending the legislation to the President for final approval. This bill paves the way for the establishment of the offshore wind sector in Brazil. Offshore wind energy will provide several benefits to the country, its economy, and wider society.
These benefits include attracting new investments, creating jobs, enhancing energy security through reduced variability and high-capacity factors of offshore wind, and helping Brazil meet its climate change targets.
With the bill now passed, the country needs to define area auctions to maintain interest and attract the offshore wind supply chain. Area auctions will allow developers to begin work that results in projects and turbines in the water. There are already around 100 applications for offshore wind projects in Brazil, representing more than 230 GW.
