Wedoany.com Report-Jan 10,The Canadian government on Jan. 7 awarded more than $11 million to seven clean fuel and alternative fuel projects, including those focused on the production of renewable diesel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and other types of bioenergy.
According to Natural Resources Canada, $5.5 million of the funding is being allocated through the Energy Innovation Program, with the remaining funds allocated to support clean energy studies under the Clean Fuels Fund.
The Industrial Waste Technology Centre, in collaboration with Enerkem, CRB Innovations and CanmetEnergy-Ottawa, will receive $2.55 million in EIP funding to support a pilot project in Quebec that aims to produce a novel, sustainable diesel fuel from wood products. The feedstock will be processed first at smaller local facilities and then sent to a central site for efficient, cost-effective processing and refining.
PyroGenesis Inc. will receive $424,000 in EIP funding to support the creation of high-power, durable plasma torches with long-lasting electrodes by designing, building and testing prototypes. The Quebec-based project aims to provide a sustainable alternative fossil to fuel burners for high-temperature industrial applications.
CRH Canada Group Inc. will receive $1.5 million in EIP funding to support a project in Ontario that aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by using alternative low-carbon fuel (ALCF) made from biomass and non-recyclable materials as a replacement for coal and other fossil fuels in cement production.
In Alberta, Greenfield Global Inc. will receive $1 million in EIP funding to produce SAF and renewable diesel from waste biomass. The project aims to convert forestry waste into biocrude and then gas using a Fischer-Tropsch process.
The Wanagekong-Biiwega’iganan Clean Energy Corp. has been awarded $2.25 million in CFF funding to conduct a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for a commercial-scale facility in Ontario that will produce SAF, renewable diesel and naphtha from wood waste and non-merchantable fiber.
In Manitoba, Beausejour Brokenhead Development Corp. will receive $92,500 in CFF funding to support a project that aims to boost local economic growth by creating a Bioeconomy Development Opportunity (BDO) Zone Rating for wheat straw resources. The rating will help accelerate biobased project development.
The remaining $3.52 million in CFF funding was awarded to Atura H2 LP to support a feasibility study and FEED study to assess the construction of a 20-megawatt (MW) facility that would produce hydrogen via electrolysis in Ontario.
