The European Union will invest €32 million in the form of a grant to rehabilitate Moldova's North-South railway corridor, a key strategic project for the country's connectivity to international transport networks. Along the North-South corridor, a total of 375 km of railway will be rehabilitated: Vălcineț - Ocnița - Bălți - Ungheni - Chișinău - Căinari.
The funds will support the modernization of the railway infrastructure and Obermeyer Hellas and DB Engineering & Consulting will provide support services to supervise the rehabilitation work, thus contributing to Moldova's integration into European transport networks.
The project is part of the European Union's Solidarity Lanes initiative, which will help Ukraine to export its goods and import its needs by rail, road and inland waterway in 2022.
