Bluefloat, Plenitude, and Sener Deploy Floating Lidar at Spanish Project Site

2024-11-11 17:05

Wedoany.com Report-Nov 11, A Floating Light Detection and Ranging (FLiDAR) buoy has been deployed at the Parque Nordés offshore wind project site in Spain, which is being developed jointly by BlueFloat Energy, Plenitude, and Sener.

A FLiDAR detection buoy was installed in the area where the Parque Nordés floating wind project is expected to be located off the waters of the Galician Ártabra coast.

According to BlueFloat Energy, the technology will allow the partners to gather real-time data on marine conditions, wind resources, and the presence of birds and marine life.

The buoy was deployed from the Ferrol Port, with all operational work carried out in collaboration with local Galician companies.

The 525 MW floating offshore wind farm will be located over 30 kilometres from the coast, in the waters between Cedeira and Cariño.

The project is expected to cover 13 per cent of Galicia’s current electricity consumption and three per cent of its total energy consumption.

The first phase is projected to generate around 6,000 direct jobs related to construction and contribute to Galicia’s GDP, potentially increasing regional economic activity by up to 1.75 per cent.

BlueFloat Energy, Sener, and Plenitude plan to build three floating wind farms in Spain.

Apart from Parque Nordés, the companies are also developing the 500 MW Parc Tramuntana in Catalonia and the Parque Tarahal in the Canary Islands.
