Bluefloat Gains Major Project Status For 2.1gw Offshore Wind In Australia

2024-11-07 16:48

Wedoany.com Report-Nov 7,  Spain-based BlueFloat Energy has announced that its Gippsland Dawn offshore wind project has secured major project status from the Australian government.

The distinction, shared with only one other offshore wind initiative, paves the way for tailored government support through the Major Projects Facilitation Agency.

The 2.1GW scheme, located offshore Victoria, was awarded a feasibility licence in early 2024.

The Gippsland Dawn project is set to commence construction in 2029, with an estimated capital investment of $10bn and a projected operational start date of 2031.

BlueFloat Energy CEO Carlos Martin stated: “The granting of major project status underscores our commitment to sustainable energy development and highlights our strong track record in developing offshore wind projects globally. We are excited to play a leading role in shaping Australia’s renewable energy landscape.”

The Gippsland Dawn project, to be located between 10km and 33km offshore between Paradise Beach and Ocean Grange, will be among Australia’s largest offshore wind farms with up to 140 turbines.
