Al Shaheen field in Qatar
Wedoany.com Report-Feb 20, EnerMech, a UK-based integrated solutions provider, has secured a five-year contract extension with North Oil Company (NOC), a partnership between QatarEnergy (70%) and TotalEnergies (30%). The agreement involves work at the Al Shaheen oil field, located 80 kilometers off Qatar’s northeast coast in the Arabian Gulf. Known as one of the largest offshore oil fields globally, Al Shaheen began commercial production in 1994 and currently operates with 40 platforms and up to 430 wells.
The contract extends EnerMech’s role in delivering specialized services to NOC, including leak testing, flange management, bolt tensioning, torquing, pipe freezing, and training. This follows a collaboration between the two entities that started in 2017. EnerMech views Qatar and the broader Middle East as key areas for growth, leveraging its expertise to tap into new opportunities.
Charles ‘Chuck’ Davison Jr., EnerMech’s CEO, stated: “By securing an extension to an already long-term project is testament to the commitment, hard work and professionalism of the Qatar team.” He also praised Sean Lawless, Country Manager for Qatar, for positioning EnerMech as a top provider of leak testing and flange management services in the region, supporting the company’s ongoing development in the Gulf.
Dan Collins, Regional Director of AMEC, added: “This arrangement is an important scope of work for EnerMech and highlights our expertise and depth of knowledge in the market. As 2025 progresses, we are eager to build on our strong footing in Qatar and continue to work with our clients to provide the best-in-class provisions.”
The Al Shaheen field remains a focal point for expansion. In 2024, Hanwha Ocean completed a fixed platform designed to last 25 years, while Boskalis installed a central processing platform topside in September as part of NOC’s production enhancement efforts. These initiatives aim to extract over 550 million barrels of oil within five years, involving more than 200 new wells, a centralized processing complex, nine remote wellhead platforms, and pipelines. Initial oil production from this phase is expected in 2027.
Separately, CRC Evans has partnered with Offshore Oil Engineering Co. (COOEC) to provide welding services for the Ru’ya Batch 1 project (EPCI09), contributing to the field’s ongoing development. The Al Shaheen oil field, situated north of Doha, continues to play a significant role in Qatar’s energy sector, supported by international collaborations and advanced technical solutions.
