Wedoany.com Report-Nov 22, Earlier this year, OSM, in collaboration with the Lyon-based start-up, Systemics under the joint venture Hydrogen Intelligence, set a world record at the prestigious Le Mans event in France.
Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) has been gearing up for the upcoming launch of its groundbreaking hydrogen-powered three-wheelers in India.
According to the sources, the mass production is planned to begin in December 2024. This innovation addresses India's unique transportation needs and positions OSM at the forefront of clean energy solutions.
Earlier this year, OSM, in collaboration with the Lyon-based start-up, Systemics under the joint venture Hydrogen Intelligence, set a world record at the prestigious Le Mans event in France.
A re-engineered three-wheeler, powered by just 2 kg of hydrogen, achieved a staggering 900 kilometers over 24 hours on the Alain Prost circuit. This accomplishment not only underscores the viability of hydrogen as an energy source but also showcases the technological prowess behind this venture.
Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility, shared, "Setting this world record is a testament to our commitment to a cleaner future. It's not just about creating a prototype; it's about delivering a solution that meets real-world demands. Our hydrogen-powered three-wheelers, designed specifically for Indian roads, represent the future of transportation."
Systemics’ advanced fuel cell technology generates electricity continuously by using hydrogen stored in lightweight tanks. This innovation allows rapid refueling in just five minutes and offers a range exceeding 700 kilometers on a single refill, all while reducing operational costs to approximately INR 3.5 per kilometer.
The first phase of the launch will target southern states like Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. A manufacturing facility near Chennai is expected to be operational by March 2025, enabling OSM to scale production to 5,000 vehicles per month initially, with a goal of reaching 10,000 by 2026.
Beyond the technical and logistical triumphs, the economic feasibility of these vehicles is equally compelling. With an estimated price of INR 6.5 lakhs, the three-wheelers promise long-term savings, as hydrogen-powered systems require less frequent replacement compared to traditional EV batteries.
Antoine Abou, Founder of Systemics, emphasized, "Hydrogen and battery technologies complement each other perfectly, and together they can redefine mobility standards. This record and upcoming launch prove that sustainable and efficient transportation is not just an aspiration but a reality."
With this bold initiative, OSM is planning to not only redefine the possibilities of hydrogen fuel technology but will also position India as a global leader in the clean energy transition.
As the countdown begins for the December 2024 mass production, OSM's hydrogen-powered three-wheelers promise to revolutionize urban mobility, blending sustainability, efficiency, and innovation like never before.
