Chinese Tech Firm Plans Europe’s Biggest Computing Centre in Malaga

The deal was finalized in Hefei on Wednesday between Romero’s ChinaLink ESGt venture capital firm and Origin Quantum, a specialist in quantum and AI computing. The collaboration aims to build a campus integrating supercomputing, quantum computing, and cloud computing. Both companies will also focus on developing quantum-resistant encryption technologies.

ChinaLink ESGt, which has previously invested in Alibaba, Tencent, and SpaceX, plans to expand its existing quantum research lab in Malaga. The new center is projected to consume 1GW of electricity to power its hardware. Romero emphasized the significance of China’s quantum computing advancements and expressed the desire to attract top quantum companies to Spain to establish an international collaborative laboratory. Origin Quantum’s chief scientist, Guo Guoping, highlighted Spain’s leadership in quantum algorithms for healthcare, AI, and other fields, positioning it as a benchmark for practical quantum technology applications worldwide.
