Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 2, The Stadtforum Dresden, a new administrative hub in Germany, has been completed, bringing together various municipal departments in one location. Developed for KID Kommunale Immobilien Dresden, a fully owned subsidiary of the State Capital of Dresden, the building provides workspaces for around 1,500 employees.
The new building extends over 16,700m² of usable above-ground space.
The project was executed by a partnership between ED. ZÜBLIN, part of the STRABAG Group’s building and civil engineering division, and Dreßler Bau, serving as the general contractor. Frank Hübner, head of ZÜBLIN’s Saxony division, stated: “The Stadtforum with its striking architecture was a challenging construction project. We are very proud of what we have achieved and are now looking forward to celebrating the opening of the administration building together. The successful realisation shows what is possible through constructive cooperation and the commitment of all those involved. I would like to thank everyone involved in the project for this.”
Spanning 16,700 square meters of usable space above ground, the building features a three-part facade with glass at the base and a light limestone grid in the middle, creating a distinct look. Beyond serving as an office, the Stadtforum acts as a public space, with its entrance area designed as a key contact point for visitors.
The design includes two green inner courtyards, a flat green roof, and an underground parking area with 165 car spaces and 371 bicycle spots, encouraging eco-friendly transport options. Inside, the foyer showcases wooden slat designs on walls and ceilings, complemented by vertical greenery. The building uses energy-efficient heating and air-conditioning systems powered by district heating.
In a separate development, ZÜBLIN Nederland, a STRABAG subsidiary in the Netherlands, secured a €139 million ($144.8 million) contract in February 2025 to build a residential complex for Greystar in Amsterdam. The Stadtforum Dresden project, however, highlights a practical blend of modern architecture and sustainability, enhancing Dresden’s administrative and public services.
