Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 13, SMA America has unveiled two new hybrid inverters tailored for residential solar systems with increased solar capacity. The Sunny Boy Smart Energy lineup now includes a 9.6 kW model and an 11.5 kW model, designed to enhance energy management for homeowners.
These DC-coupled inverters combine the ability to use solar energy directly from the array and store excess power in a battery within a single unit. They support up to 200% DC oversizing, allowing efficient solar energy generation and battery charging. Depending on the model, the inverters feature either three or four maximum power point optimizing channels, paired with SMA’s ShadeFix software to improve performance under partial shading.
Even without a battery, homeowners can access partial backup power. The Backup Secure feature provides up to 1,920 W of backup power during daylight hours if the grid fails. When connected to energy storage, the inverters enable continuous backup power. SMA announced that an enhanced Backup Select feature, expected soon, will increase backup capacity to 5,700 W and support up to seven 120 V devices.
When used with the SMA Energy Meter, these inverters allow real-time tracking of energy production and usage, helping homeowners optimize self-consumption and efficiency.

These new models complement SMA America’s existing Sunny Boy Smart Energy range, which includes 3.8 kW, 4.8 kW, 5.8 kW, and 7.7 kW options. The company offers a standard 10-year warranty, extendable to 25 years, ensuring long-term reliability.
The introduction of the 9.6 kW and 11.5 kW inverters reflects SMA America’s focus on meeting growing energy needs with flexible, high-capacity solutions. These products aim to provide homeowners with greater energy independence and adaptability in residential solar applications.
