Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 14, Muse, working with Oldham Council in the UK, has submitted planning applications to transform Oldham Town Centre. These efforts form part of the Oldham Town Living regeneration program, aimed at delivering new residences, improved public spaces, and areas for work and recreation.
The plans seek to upgrade the town centre.
The proposals target six key sites in the town centre: Prince’s Gate, the former Magistrate’s Court, Manchester Chambers, the Leisure Centre, the Civic Centre, and Civic Tower. The plans were shaped through extensive community input, including a seven-week consultation in mid-2024 and additional public discussions in February 2025, ensuring alignment with local needs for accessibility, quality, and safety.
These applications advance the partnership between Muse and Oldham Council to redevelop underutilized areas of the town centre. If approved, the plans will enable the transformation of nearly ten hectares of land, with up to 2,000 new homes expected over the next 15 years, fostering vibrant community spaces.
Alex Vogel, Muse’s senior development manager, stated: “The submission of these applications represents a major step forward for Oldham. We’ve worked closely with Oldham Council and the community to shape plans that are inclusive, distinctive and rooted in place.
“It’s a long-term commitment to unlocking the town centre’s full potential and creating places that work for everyone. We’re excited to now move into the next phase of the project.”
Oldham Council leader Arooj Shah added: “This is an exciting moment for Oldham. These applications reflect the ambition and belief we have in our town and its future.
“We’ve taken the time to listen, to understand what people want from their town centre – and these plans are built on that conversation.
“This is about creating a place that people can feel proud of – where families can put down roots, businesses can thrive, and everyone feels welcome.”
The initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing Oldham Town Centre as a welcoming and dynamic hub. By prioritizing community feedback, the proposals aim to create spaces that support families, businesses, and visitors while preserving the area’s unique character.
In a related effort, Muse recently began public engagement for a £500 million regeneration project in Wythenshawe Town Centre, partnering with Manchester City Council. The Oldham project, however, remains focused on delivering sustainable growth and opportunity, ensuring the town centre meets the evolving needs of its residents and businesses.
Through careful planning and collaboration, the regeneration seeks to provide quality housing, modern amenities, and inviting public spaces, contributing to Oldham’s long-term prosperity and appeal.
