2025-02-14 16:43

Wedoany.com Report-Feb 14, BYD Company Limited, founded in 1995 by Wang Chuanfu, is a Chinese multinational conglomerate specializing in electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, and renewable energy solutions. Initially focused on battery manufacturing, BYD expanded into the automotive industry, becoming one of the world’s largest EV makers. Its business spans Auto, Electronics, Energy, and Rail Transit, including electric monorails. Listed on the Hong Kong and Shenzhen Stock Exchanges, BYD reported a 2023 revenue of RMB 602 billion (83billion),a4283billion),a4228.24 billion), up 24% from the same period in 2023.

BYD’s EVs and public transport solutions are gaining traction in Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia. In late 2023, BYD surpassed Tesla in global EV sales, becoming the world’s largest seller of pure electric cars (BEVs). Its models feature advanced designs and infotainment systems, competing with high-end vehicles globally. BYD is also a leader in lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, including the Blade Battery, known for safety and efficiency.

In 2024, BYD launched the YANGWANG U9 supercar, powered by the e4 platform and DiSus-X Intelligent Body Control System. With a quad-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain delivering 960 kW (1,287 HP) and 1,680 Nm of torque, the U9 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds. It features an 80 kWh Blade battery, offering a 450 km range on the CLTC cycle. During trials in November 2024, the U9 reached a top speed of 391.94 km/h (243.54 mph), making it one of the fastest EVs globally.

BYD also produces plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), which accounted for 58% of its 2024 sales, while BEVs made up 42%. This marks a shift from 2023, when BEVs represented 52.3% of sales. The BYD SEAL U DM-I, a PHEV SUV combining a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor, exemplifies its hybrid technology. BYD’s most affordable BEV, the Seagull, is a compact hatchback priced at approximately $9,700 in China, offering a range of 305 km to 405 km on the CLTC cycle.

Through its BYD Semiconductor subsidiary, the company designs and manufactures IGBTs and SiC power semiconductors for electric powertrains. SiC chips, particularly beneficial in 800V architecture, reduce energy loss and enhance charging speed. BYD’s vertical integration strategy extends to logistics, with the company designing and operating its cargo vessels to ship EVs globally. This approach ensures supply chain control and cost efficiency.

BYD’s fleet includes dual-fuel vessels using LNG and conventional maritime fuels, reducing CO2 emissions by 20-30%. In 2025, BYD launched the BYD Shenzhen, the world’s largest RoRo vehicle carrier, capable of transporting 9,200 cars. Measuring 219 meters in length and reaching a speed of 18.5 knots, the vessel features stationary storage batteries for emission-controlled areas.

BYD plans to expand its fleet to eight vessels by early 2026, supporting global expansion and competing with rivals like NIO, XPeng, Li Auto, Geely, and Great Wall Motors. This strategic move strengthens BYD’s position in the global EV market.
