Wedoany.com Report-Mar 18, A Vestas turbine blade has broken at the 130MW Sormarkfjellet wind farm in Norway.
The wind farm in Osen and Flatanger was closed after a turbine blade (pictured) partially fell to the ground, energy company Aneo said.
An Aneo spokesperson said: “On Saturday afternoon a number of alarms went off in the control room.
“We sent a team out to carry out a visual inspection and it was clear that one blade has sustained a lot of damage and partially fallen to the ground.
“Because of the weather conditions we do not want to send out more employees to further investigate so we have closed the wind farm to the public and all employees.
“No turbines are operating at the moment and we will provide more information when we have it.
“When the weather allows we will carry out further visual inspections using drones; we don’t have a timeline on when this will happen but it will hopefully be soon.”
Vestas has been approached for comment on the incident.
Back in late January, another turbine at the site was damaged in a storm. The Aneo spokesperson said that this turbine is still not operating and there is currently no timeline for carrying out repairs.
The wind farm is equipped with Vestas V117 turbines and started operations in 2021. It has an installed power of 130MW and yearly production of 440GWh.
This is the equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 29,300 households.
