Petroecuador Declares Force Majeure on SOTE Pipeline After Oil Spill

Wedoany.com Report-Mar 19, Ecuador's state oil company Petroecuador declared on Tuesday force majeure on its SOTE pipeline due to what it described as a landslide that provoked an oil spill, according to a statement from the firm.

Affected residents, who were hired by Petroecuador, navigate in a boat as they work to extract oil from the Viche River, following an oil spill caused by a damaged pipeline of the Ecuadorian Oil Pipeline System (SOTE), in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, March 15, 2025.

Petroecuador added that the emergency measure will not last more than 60 days and that the size of the spill had not yet been determined.
