Philippine Province Approves 300 MW of Solar

Wedoany.com Report-Apr 1, A 300 MW solar project has been approved in Bacsil and Mumulaan barangays of Ilocos Norte, northern Philippines. The provincial board of Ilocos Norte has unanimously approved the installation, which will be developed by Manila-based Opus Solar Energy Corp. The project will utilize approximately 200 hectares of forest land selected by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for sustainable development.

The Philippine Board of Investments (BOI) has granted the project a green lane certification, which aims to simplify the approval and registration process to expedite its development. Since the inception of the green lane program in February 2023, the BOI has registered 184 projects under this initiative, highlighting the Philippines' growing focus on renewable energy.

According to the latest data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Philippines has achieved significant progress in solar energy installations. By the end of 2024, the country had accumulated 2.97 GW of cumulative installed solar capacity, marking a notable increase from 1.8 GW recorded in 2023. This progress underscores the Philippines' commitment to advancing its energy sector and achieving net-zero emissions.
