China Launches First Cross-Region Hydrogen Heavy-Duty Truck Route

2025-04-15 14:15

Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, China Petrochemical Corporation, known as Sinopec Group, announced the launch of China’s first cross-regional hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck route. This milestone supports the advancement of hydrogen energy applications, particularly in the country’s western regions.

The route stretches 1,150 kilometers, linking Chongqing Municipality in southwest China with Qinzhou Port in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, passing through Guizhou Province. It facilitates regular freight transport using hydrogen-powered trucks, promoting sustainable logistics across these areas.

Sinopec has built four hydrogen refueling stations along the corridor to ensure a reliable fuel supply for the trucks. These stations enable consistent operations, supporting efficient and uninterrupted transport services.

The regions along the route are rich in hydrogen resources, utilizing technologies like water electrolysis and ammonia decomposition for production. With an annual industrial by-product hydrogen output exceeding 400,000 tonnes, these areas can support the fuel needs of approximately 360,000 hydrogen-powered logistics vehicles.

Beyond transportation, the corridor functions as an industrial hub, expected to handle 220,000 units of cargo annually in two-way traffic. This capacity strengthens regional trade and logistics networks, fostering economic activity.

The initiative reflects Sinopec’s commitment to expanding hydrogen energy infrastructure. By integrating production, refueling, and transport, the route creates a cohesive system that supports the growing demand for clean energy solutions in freight logistics.

This development highlights the potential for hydrogen-powered transport to contribute to sustainable industrial growth. The corridor not only enhances connectivity between key regions but also sets a foundation for further advancements in hydrogen energy applications across China.
