OEG Bags Three-Year Offshore Wind Gig With Orsted

2025-04-01 09:27

Wedoany.com Report-Apr 1, OEG Energy Group has recently secured a three-year contract for Orsted’s German offshore wind cluster, a deal that underscores the company's commitment to advancing renewable energy. Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC), a division of OEG, will handle servicing tasks such as crane and lift servicing, inspection, and maintenance across the German cluster, which comprises six wind farms. The agreement, which began in January 2025, includes two additional one-year extension options.

By 2026, Orsted aims to expand its German portfolio by building and operating an additional offshore wind farm, joining five already operational in the North Sea. These projects collectively have the potential to generate enough green electricity to power approximately 2.5 million German households annually.

Under the contract, OEG’s operations and maintenance (O&M) technicians will inspect 337 turbines located at the Port of Emden, conducting comprehensive checks on lifting equipment, cranes, service lifts, and associated electrical and mechanical components. Safety-critical inspections will also be carried out on anchor points, ladders, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and evacuation equipment. Additional support will be provided for minor repairs and troubleshooting as needed.

OEG’s operations director for its topside division, Dean Coates, emphasized the significance of the contract, stating, “Winning this contract is a testament to the exceptional service and reliability our team has consistently delivered over the past four years. We look forward to continuing our work in the German offshore wind sector, helping to support sustainable energy development with precision and care.”

Orsted’s lead category manager of O&M services procurement, Michaela Gregory, highlighted the company’s long-term partnerships with UK suppliers, noting that over the past 15 years, relationships with UK suppliers have been instrumental in delivering offshore wind farms. In the past five years, 242 UK suppliers have secured major contracts with Orsted, with many hundreds more supported indirectly to help build and maintain our offshore wind projects globally.

This achievement marks OEG’s entry into the US offshore wind market with a multi-year topside framework agreement with Orsted for its northeastern US offshore wind projects, further solidifying its position as a key player in the global renewable energy landscape.
