Siemens Gamesa Produces First 14 MW Wind Turbine Nacelle Outside Europe

2024-11-14 10:39

Wedoany.com Report-Nov 14, Siemens Gamesa has completed the manufacturing and testing of the first 14 MW wind turbine nacelle outside of Europe.

Following the recent inauguration of its new nacelle production facility in Taichung, Taiwan, Siemens Gamesa finished the testing of the nacelle for the 14 MW wind turbines that will be installed at the Hai Long offshore wind farm.

The Taichung nacelle plant’s upgrade and expansion, which began in 2022, have enabled the transition from assembling the SG 8.0-167 DD to the full local production and assembly of the SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbine, said Bernice Chen, Siemens Gamesa’s global offshore communications lead, in a recent social media post.

Each nacelle comprises more than 10,000 components, including critical parts from local suppliers supporting offshore wind initiatives.

The facility’s primary focus will be to support the 1,022 Hai Long offshore wind project, followed by Taiwan Round 3 offshore wind development and other Asia Pacific projects.

The Hai Long consortium and Siemens Gamesa signed the contracts for wind turbine supply and maintenance services in October 2022, shortly after Siemens Gamesa held the groundbreaking ceremony for the new expansion of the nacelle factory.

By the end of 2026, the workforce at the facility in Taiwan is expected to reach 300 employees.
