Wedoany.com Report-Feb 5, X-Elio has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with four pharmaceutical companies to supply 245GWh of renewable energy annually for 10 years.

The deal enables Thermo Fisher Scientific, Haleon, Gilead Sciences and GSK to purchase clean energy from X-Elio’s 369MW Lorca Solar project in Spain, which is set to begin operations by early 2026.

The deal was reached under the pharmaceutical programme Energize, a supply chain renewables initiative.

The agreement is a virtual PPA, a flexible mechanism that allows companies to source clean energy in support of their decarbonisation goals.

The energy will come from 35% of X-Elio’s Lorca Solar project.

Chief commercial officer at X-Elio Mirko Molinari said: “The signing of this virtual PPA reaffirms our commitment to offering personalised net-zero solutions adapted to the needs of our partners.

“We are delighted to collaborate with the landmark programme Energize and contribute to its ambitious goal to decarbonise the supply chain of the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.”

The Energize programme is managed by Schneider Electric together with the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative.

Meanwhile X-Elio has developed a community plan for its Lorca Solar project, offering initiatives designed to benefit the region.

These include donations of books, musical instruments and sustainable furniture to schools; the establishment of virtual classrooms; professional training programmes, and sponsorship of key cultural and sporting events.
