Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 7, Nordic solar developer Alight, an independent power producer, has entered into a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Autoliv, an automotive safety supplier, for the majority of clean electricity from its 100MWp solar park in Eurajoki, Finland. This facility is slated to start operations in 2026. The deal marks the largest solar PPA ever signed in Finland.
Alight will fund, build, own and manage the solar facility.
Alight will finance, construct, own, and operate the solar park. Autoliv will secure most of the generated clean energy, ensuring a stable, cost-effective supply for the long term. This agreement boosts Finland’s renewable energy capacity and supports Autoliv’s target - aiming for carbon-neutral operations by 2030.
Alight’s CEO, Warren Campbell, said: “Solar power has great potential to transform the Finnish energy landscape by complementing its wind production, and we’re proud that together with Autoliv, we are announcing the largest solar PPA in Finland.” He highlighted how this partnership advances a low-carbon future by merging Autoliv’s sustainability efforts with Alight’s solar expertise. The company recently obtained €46m ($50.6m) in funding from SEB and ABN AMRO to develop the project. Once operational, the park will generate 100 gigawatt hours annually, sufficient to power 20,000 homes. Construction is set to begin in spring 2025.
Autoliv’s vice-president of sustainability, Kaisa Tarna-Mani, remarked: “At Autoliv, we are committed to operating our business in an environmentally sustainable manner while delivering world-class products to our customers.” She emphasized that virtual PPAs, like this one, are key to achieving low-carbon operations, aligning with the company’s environmental goals.
Separately, Alight expanded its portfolio by acquiring the 215MWp Lidsø solar park in Lolland, Denmark, in March 2025. Located at Rødby Havn in Lolland municipality, this project was developed by European Energy. Construction started in the summer of 2024, with commissioning expected in the summer of 2025. Two major companies have agreed to purchase electricity from this site. SEB provided €127m in financing for Alight to complete the acquisition.
The Eurajoki PPA reflects a growing focus on renewable energy in the Nordic region. By securing a steady supply of solar power, Autoliv strengthens its sustainability efforts, while Alight reinforces its role in expanding clean energy infrastructure across Northern Europe. Both projects highlight practical steps toward reducing reliance on non-renewable sources.
