Union Pacific Railroad has announced that it will transfer local service operations at its Eugene Yard in Oregon to Genesee & Wyoming’s (G&W) Central Oregon & Pacific Railroad (CORP).
The transition is expected to streamline the handling of railcars and optimize operational efficiency. CORP, a G&W short line railroad, will assume responsibility for local service, while Union Pacific focuses on long-haul freight operations from the Eugene Yard.
The plan is subject to approval by the Surface Transportation Board, with both railroads engaging customers to facilitate a seamless transition. Union Pacific has communicated with employees affected by the changes, providing details about potential employment opportunities within CORP or across G&W’s network. Employees involved in long-distance freight operations will remain based at Eugene Yard.
