Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 15, Orient Cable, a Chinese power cable manufacturer, has secured two significant contracts for offshore wind projects in China, strengthening its position in high-voltage cable technology. Both contracts, announced on April 14, involve collaboration with China Southern Power Grid to support renewable energy development.
The first contract is for a 1 GW offshore wind project in Guangdong Province, developed by Energy China. Orient Cable, as part of a consortium, will handle the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation of a 500 kV extra high-voltage AC subsea cable system. This includes two circuits using a 3×800 mm² cable along a 92-kilometer route, covering design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and testing. The company stated on social media: “This achievement further reinforces NBO’s expertise in EHVAC offshore energy industry. It marks another significant milestone for Orient Cable in advancing high-end EHVAC power transmission technology, following the successful commercial application of the world’s first 500kV HVAC subsea cable in offshore wind farms since 2023.”
The second contract involves supplying a 500 kV high-voltage DC subsea cable system for a 2 GW offshore wind project, noted as having the longest cable route in China’s offshore wind sector at 118 kilometers. The system uses a 2500 mm² cable. Orient Cable highlighted this milestone, saying: “Following mass production kick-off for China’s 1st 2GW HVDC 500kV subsea cable project in Q1 2025, NBO has added another chapter to its legacy and is excited to announce the win of another 2GW HVDC 500kV 2500mm² Subsea Cable System.”
These projects build on Orient Cable’s expertise in advanced power transmission. The company emphasized that the second contract underscores its leadership in high-voltage DC technology and sets a foundation for standardizing 500 kV systems in offshore wind applications.
Orient Cable has a growing presence in the global offshore wind industry. Earlier in 2025, the company was selected to supply 170 kilometers of 66 kV inter-array cables for the 1.5 GW Baltica 2 offshore wind farm in Poland, developed by Ørsted and PGE. It has also contributed to projects like the Hollandse Kust West Beta grid connection in the Netherlands.
Through these contracts, Orient Cable is advancing renewable energy infrastructure, supporting efficient power transmission for offshore wind projects, and contributing to sustainable energy goals both in China and internationally.
