Iraq’s Artawi Oil Field Gets Ready for a Massive Boom

2024-12-25 11:45

Wedoany.com Report-Dec 25, Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Artawi oil field in southern Iraq, which has estimated reserves of 2.4 billion barrels of oil, is expected to experience a significant production boom that will multiply its present production volume.

During his recent visit to the oil field, Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani said that the Artawi field is one of the important fields for Iraq as it produces three types of high-quality oil.

The oil field was also included in the Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP), which is part of a $27 billion energy deal between the Iraqi government and France-based TotalEnergies, according to Abdul-Ghani.

The Iraqi government aims to achieve total gas self-sufficiency by 2027 and increase its crude oil output to around eight million barrels per day by the same year.

A significant production boom is anticipated in the oil field within the GGIP, as the Artawi field’s current production volume is approximately 60,000 barrels per day. Efforts are underway to increase this output to approximately 210,000 barrels per day.

The Iraqi Oil Ministry will collaborate with TotalEnergies to make use of the associated gas from five oil fields in Basra, including the Artawi oil field.

The project also includes setting up a gas processing plant with a capacity of 600 million cubic feet in two phases.
