Wedoany.com Report-Mar 17, Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) segment, in a joint venture with Spanish infrastructure company Lantania, has secured a contract to construct the Ras Mohaisen desalination plant in Saudi Arabia.

The project, awarded by Middle Eastern developer ACWA Power, will have a daily capacity of 300,000m³ and is set to provide drinking water to approximately one million residents in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah and Al-Baha regions.
The contractual scope includes the design, procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning of a seawater reverse osmosis desalination plant, featuring intake and outfall facilities, process units, and pumping stations.
Additionally, the project will include a 600,000m³ potable water storage facility, an electrical special facility, and associated works, complete with advanced automation and instrumentation systems. A solar photovoltaic plant will also be integrated into the project.
This marks the second major desalination project for L&T in Saudi Arabia, which strengthens the WET segment’s presence in the Middle East.
The order value, as per L&T’s classification, ranges between Rs25bn ($287.2m) and Rs50bn.
L&T, an Indian multinational enterprise, engages in engineering, procurement, and construction projects, hi-tech manufacturing, and services, with operations spanning multiple countries.
The company has also recently secured orders for the construction of luxury residential towers in the Indian cities of Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai. These contracts, valued between Rs10bn and Rs25bn, will be undertaken by the company’s Building & Factories vertical.
In December 2024, Infra Bazaar Tech’s brand Pai Machines completed the acquisition of the machinery works manufacturing facility from L&T Construction Equipment.
