Siemens Energy Boss Stresses 21.5MW Turbine Is Test Unit

2025-02-13 14:14

Wedoany.com Report-Feb 13, Siemens Energy chief executive Christian Bruch has insisted Siemens Gamesa’s new 20MW-plus offshore turbine being installed in Denmark is only a test unit.

Bruch told journalists today that people are “getting worked up” about the machine, which has an around 21.5MW nameplate rating and is rising at Osterild.

He said the prototype will be used to test whether or not the platform is commercially viable.

He said a decision on that will be made at a “later point”.

Siemens Gamesa is looking at the machine as it wants to be a global leader in offshore wind, he added.

He said the testing process will help it understand what the limitations are of the technology.

The SG DD-276 model could generate up to 21.5MW with a 276 metre rotor.

The prototype structure has been certified by DNV and has until 2027 to develop the model, according to the Danish wind turbine certification authority.
