Wedoany.com Report-Mar 31, Finnish construction company YIT and HUS Kiinteistöt, a provider of hospital property services, have entered into an agreement to initiate the Salvia building’s construction phase in the Meilahti hospital area in Helsinki, Finland.
Construction is set to begin next month.
The project, commissioned by HUS Group and developed by HUS Kiinteistöt, follows a year-long development phase and will utilize integrated project delivery methods. The contract’s target budget, established during the development phase, is approximately €119m ($128.2m). The project’s development phase necessitated the removal of a planned parking facility due to rock conditions at the site.
The project scope, covering roughly 24,000 gross square metres, includes premises for a pharmacy and central kitchen, with three above-ground operational floors and a ventilation machine room floor. YIT Construction Development Director Carl Sirén stated that the collaborative project management contract was chosen as the project format since it has proved successful in our large investment projects. He emphasized that involving the main contractor in the development phase as early as possible, along with all parties working on the project, will bring the best result.
Emphasis has been placed on the property’s carbon footprint, particularly its energy consumption, with an energy recycling system installed at the site. YIT VP Matti Sarikkola mentioned that it is great that they are now able to start the construction work for the project. The Salvia building will be located between the New Children’s Hospital, the Park Hospital, the Service Center, and a wing of the Women’s Hospital. The new building is functionally and structurally connected to the nearby properties and underground facilities, requiring the improvement of the load-bearing capacity of the deck structures of the tunnels running under the yard areas.
The construction of the Salvia building, set to replace HUS’ old administrative building, will begin next month and is set for completion by early 2029. This construction contract will be registered in YIT’s order book for the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, YIT recently started construction on the Asunto Espoon Seaside project, a 15-storey residential building in Espoo, Finland.
