Wedoany.com Report-Nov 19,  The 96 MW Jeonnam 1 offshore wind farm in South Korea, jointly developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), SK Innovation E&S, and Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), has delivered its first power.

Construction on the Jeonnam 1 offshore wind project started in early 2023, with turbine installation commencing in September 2024.

Located off the coast of Shin-an, Jeonnam 1 is the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in South Korea and is expected to reach commercial operations in the first quarter of 2025.

Once fully operational, the 96 MW wind farm is anticipated to provide enough renewable energy to power approximately 60,000 households.

“First power from Jeonnam 1 is a landmark for CIP, our partners and the offshore wind industry in South Korea. It showcases our strong project execution capabilities – and we are very proud to have reached this significant milestone in collaboration with our partners”, said Thomas Wibe Poulsen, Partner in CIP.

Jeonnam Offshore Wind Power company was founded in 2020 as a 51-49 joint venture between SK E&S and CIP.

In October 2023, SK E&S and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners reached financial close for the project.

CIP entered the South Korean market in 2018 and currently has an offshore wind development pipeline of approximately 5 GW in the country.

The company already secured Electric Business Licenses (EBLs) for several of its offshore wind farms there.

The projects include both fixed-bottom and floating wind farms, located in the Yeonggwang County, Jeonnam Province, Shinan County – and are being developed by COP, CIP’s exclusive offshore wind development partner.
