Wedoany.com Report-Oct 11,German chemicals group BASF SE (ETR:BAS) said it signed today a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) to procure renewable electricity for its three manufacturing sites in China’s Jiangsu province.
The contract is a sleeved long-term PPA and involves CLP China as the power generation party and Envision Energy as the power retailer.
BASF said that currently its Nanjing site, Rudong site and Zhenjiang site in the province have already achieved 100% renewable electricity consumption. The three sites now aim to source their electricity supply from 100% renewable energy in the next 10 years.
The electricity will come from CLP’s three photovoltaic projects in Wuxi, Huai’an and Yangzhou, in Jiangsu.
The agreement will help BASF boost its use of renewable energy in China, working towards its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
“The rapid development of China’s renewable energy market provides a foundation to support us in increasing the use of renewable energy,” said Jan Peter Bredehoeft, senior vice president, operations and site management Greater China at BASF.
“This will also allow us to launch products with reduced carbon footprint, and support our downstream customers’ green transformation.”
