2025-04-04 14:05

Wedoany.com Report-Apr 4, A new electricity connection between Kent and Suffolk, known as Sea Link, has applied for development consent. The project, part of the "Great Grid Upgrade" initiative, aims to boost energy security and provide cleaner energy to the Great Britain power network. By increasing electricity capacity, the project will help meet the growing demand for energy and ensure more renewable and low-carbon power reaches homes, businesses, and public services. The 138-kilometer connection will primarily run underwater, with 122 kilometers of cables laid underwater and the remaining distance covered by underground cables connecting to converter stations. These stations will allow electricity to be transported to the needed regions in East Anglia, Kent, and across the rest of the country.

The project director, Adrian Pierssene, emphasized that Sea Link is a vital investment for the future of energy in Great Britain. He highlighted its role in integrating renewable energy into the grid, boosting energy security, and supporting a cleaner electricity network. The plan was developed through multiple rounds of public consultation between 2022 and 2025, ensuring it reflects the feedback and concerns of the public. The application has now been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for consideration as part of the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) planning process. Public input will continue to be invited during the examination stage of the process.
