Wedoany.com Report-Jan 3, SAR has started operational testing of a new freight line outside the urban area of Al-Ahsa Governorate, with operations scheduled to begin on 28 January.

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) has announced the start of operational testing of a new freight line outside the urban area of Al-Ahsa Governorate. The project is in line with the announcement made in April 2023. Freight train operations on the new line are scheduled to start on Tuesday 28 January 2025.

The new line is part of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services. The strategy aims to develop advanced and sustainable infrastructure to consolidate Saudi Arabia's position as a global logistics hub. The project will improve road safety, reduce traffic congestion, and improve traffic flow within the governorate by moving freight train traffic out of Al-Ahsa's urban area.

The new line will also increase the flexibility of cargo movement between King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam and Riyadh Dry Port. This will increase operational efficiency and support the Kingdom's economic and population growth needs. SAR is currently involved in several projects in Al-Ahsa Governorate to further improve transport and logistics services in the region.
