Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 14, Uzbekistan has begun constructing the 228 MW Norin Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) cascade along the Norin River in the Namangan region. This significant project, led by Uzbekhydroenergo, aims to harness the country’s hydropower potential to generate sustainable energy.
Following a presidential decree to advance the hydropower sector, Uzbekistan is investing in projects to expand and modernize its hydroelectric capabilities. The Norin HPP cascade, fully funded and managed by Uzbekhydroenergo, marks a milestone as the nation’s first entirely domestically developed hydropower initiative. The project incorporates locally produced equipment, including hydroaggregates, supporting Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen national manufacturing.
“We are proud to lead this initiative, which showcases Uzbekistan’s ability to develop sustainable energy solutions,” said Abdugani Sanginov, Chairman of Uzbekhydroenergo’s board, during a site visit to the construction area in Namangan. Work on the first station, HPP-1, is advancing swiftly, with teams maintaining a steady pace to meet project timelines.
The Norin HPP cascade will feature six hydropower stations, each designed to produce 38 MW of power. Once completed, the cascade is projected to deliver 1,025 million kWh of clean electricity annually, enough to supply approximately 430,000 households. This output will also conserve around 277 million cubic meters of natural gas each year, contributing to more efficient resource use. Additionally, the project will create over 130 permanent jobs, boosting local employment in the Namangan region.
Uzbekhydroenergo’s commitment to this initiative highlights Uzbekistan’s focus on sustainable energy development. By leveraging the Norin River’s potential, the cascade will provide reliable power while supporting environmental goals.
