Wedoany.com Report-Mar 11, South Korea’s LG Energy Solution has won a €372m deal to build a utility-scale battery for Poland.

The battery storage site will be located next to PGE’s pumped storage energy store in Zarnowiec

It will build the 262MW battery in the village of Zarnowiec on the Baltic coast for Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) near PGE’s pumped-storage power plant (pictured).

PGE Group will apply for funds from the €750bn National Recovery Plan set up to help the country recover from the pandemic.

PGE president Dariusz Marzec said his company was “preparing to start the construction of the largest energy storage investment in Poland and one of the largest in Europe”.

He said that when the battery is finished in two years, it will be able to release enough renewable electricity for 250,000 households during evening demand peaks.

LG opened its electric vehicle battery plant near Wrocław eight years ago.

Jangha Lee, president of LG Energy Solution Wrocław, said: “Now we know that our investment played a key role and resulted not only in introducing the most modern technology to Poland, but also made Poland the European leader in this industry.”
