2025-03-28 14:56

Wedoany.com Report-Mar 28, The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) has launched “An Energy Sector Roadmap to Net Zero Emissions for Lao PDR”, supporting the country’s goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.

The report outlined strategies using renewable energy and low-carbon technologies to cut emissions in the energy sector.

The launch coincided with the dissemination of the 8th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO8), first introduced at the 42nd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) under Lao PDR’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2024. AEO8 provides key policy recommendations for sustainable energy planning across the region.

“It provides strategic insights into optimising and decarbonising our energy systems,” said Dato' Ir. Ts. Razib Dawood, executive director of ACE. “We are proud to begin our net zero collaboration with Lao PDR and look forward to partnering with all AMS to accelerate progress towards climate targets, particularly in the energy sector.”

Around 40 representatives from Lao PDR’s government, academic institutions, and state-owned enterprises attended the event, engaging in discussions on regional cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Dr. Santisouk Phimphachanh, senior official on energy leader of Lao PDR, also reaffirmed the country’s commitment. “ACE’s pivotal role in fostering regional cooperation in the energy sector, along with other low-carbon initiatives, is essential to achieving our climate and energy goals."

Findings from AEO8 will be shared across ASEAN Member States to promote knowledge-sharing and capacity-building.
