Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 7, BYD recently made another milestone in its global expansion with the "Xi'an" car carrier successfully undocking on April 2. This development follows the announcement of the "Shenzhen," BYD's latest and largest ro-ro car carrier, which is set to make its maiden voyage. The "Shenzhen" measures 219.9 meters in length and 37.7 meters in width, with a cruising speed of approximately 34 km/h. It is capable of carrying up to 9,200 vehicles, making it the world's largest ro-ro car carrier.
BYD has been actively expanding its maritime logistics operations. In 2022, the company invested 5 billion yuan to commission eight ro-ro carriers, each capable of transporting over 7,000 vehicles. Two of these vessels were built by Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited, while the remaining six were produced by CIMC Raffles. All ships feature dual-fuel propulsion systems, utilizing both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and conventional fuel, ensuring efficient and environmentally friendly operations.
The rollout of BYD's shipping fleet has been swift. The first ro-ro ship, "Explorer No.1," began its maiden voyage from Xiaomo Port in Shenzhen in January 2024, carrying 4,000 electric vehicles to Europe. The "Changzhou" was delivered in December 2024 and set sail immediately, followed by the "Hefei" in January 2025. The "Shenzhen" was undocked in January 2025, with the "Changsha" following in March, with delivery expected in May. BYD aims to complete its fleet of eight ro-ro carriers by 2026, achieving an annual shipping capacity exceeding one million vehicles.
This expansion underscores BYD's commitment to advancing its global logistics operations, leveraging cutting-edge technology and efficient fuel systems to enhance its fleet's capabilities.
