Wedoany.com Report-Nov 12, Stargate Hydrogen has expanded its hydrogen operations in the Nordics through a new collaboration with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
The Estonian alkaline electrolyser manufacturer has stated that Finland’s infrastructure, active projects and market openness make it a “fertile ground for expansion and innovation.”
The partnership aims to deliver large-scale electrolyser validation and testing at VTT’s test facilities, collaborative R&D, and a path to market – establishing Finland as a “testing ground for scalable, commercial hydrogen solutions across Europe.”
Rainer Küngas, Chief Technology Officer at Stargate Hydrogen, said, “We see real potential here [Finland], not only for growth in green hydrogen production but also for developing and testing innovative solutions for decarbonising the hard-to-abate sectors.
“VTT’s capabilities allow us to validate our products thoroughly in real-world conditions. The partnership with VTT will be an important part of our activities in Finland, where we’ve already established a subsidiary and have multiple commercial projects under execution.”
The firm was chosen as the alkaline electrolysis technology supplier for the 1MW containerised electrolysis project being developed by Fortum in July. The first Stargate stacks have already been delivered to Finland ahead of commissioning next year.
Olli Himanen, Research Team Leader for Hydrogen Production at VTT, added, “By expanding and developing new testing capabilities, knowledge and skills, we aim to support European electrolyser manufacturers with facilities and services that meet the highest standards, supporting industry growth.”
