Wedoany.com Report-Feb 12, BW ESS and Mirai Power have signed an agreement setting out plans to co-develop up to 1GW of energy storage projects in southern Germany.
Munich-based Mirai Power is a battery energy storage systems (BESS) developer focused on the European market, while BW ESS has energy storage pipelines across a range of other global markets.
The companies recognise that Germany is becoming a growth hotspot for large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Europe, with around 7GWh of new storage is expected to be added by 2026 – a fivefold increase in capacity.
Under the new agreement, the two partners will now work together to originate and develop opportunities for storage projects in the south of Germany.
Executive director of BW ESS Roberto Jiménez said: “The Mirai team share many of the same attributes as our own team – they are pragmatic, move fast and have shown considerable commercial acumen.
“Most importantly, they share our commitment to unlocking the value of energy storage.
“We’re excited to see the opportunities this partnership creates as we expand our presence in the German market.”
Mirai Power’s managing director Marco Frascati added: “Our mission is to contribute to a sustainable and reliable energy supply – through future-proof, innovative BESS projects strategically sited throughout Europe.
“Southern Germany is a region with huge energy storage development potential, and our partnership with a global leader like BW ESS will help us accelerate our efforts to decarbonise the energy system.”
