2024-11-14 11:45

Wedoany.com Report-Nov 14, The completion of phase two brings several infrastructure improvements designed to increase capacity and efficiency at the Cicero facility.

BNSF Railway has reached a milestone in its multi-year Cicero Intermodal Expansion Project in Illinois.

Key developments in this phase include:

Addition of a new production track extending 4,530 feet, improving operational capacity.

Reconstruction of 43,000 feet of receiving yard track for an optimized layout.

Construction of a new trailer parking lot providing over 470 parking stalls.

Establishment of a new hostler repair shop.

Installation of a new 100-foot diameter turntable.

In alignment with sustainability efforts, BNSF optimized site grading to reduce excavation, recycled existing pavement, and repurposed excess soil on an adjacent site. These measures contributed to a reduction of 5,971 metric tons in greenhouse gas emissions. Collaboration with the local municipality led to the design and construction of a stormwater detention system that improves stormwater runoff control in the community.

The entire expansion project is expected to be completed by 2026, aiming to increase production capacity to meet current demand and accommodate future growth.
