Bramble Launches £1.5m Hydrogen Project With Taiwan-Based Companies

2025-04-03 09:44

Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 3, A UK-based cleantech company, Bramble Energy, has announced a £1.5 million initiative to advance hydrogen production through a partnership with Taiwanese-based Tripod Technology Corporation and Tripod Nanotechnology Corporation. The project, named POWER: PCB Optimized Water Electrolysis with Reduced Platinum Group Metals (PGM), leverages Bramble Energy’s printed circuit board AEM electrolyser (PCBEL) technology. Funded by Innovate UK and the UK-Taiwan CRD 2024 programme, the project aims to refine the PCBEL cell and stack design, integrate new catalysts, and develop membrane electrode assemblies. This will reduce the cost of anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyser stacks by improving durability and operational flexibility. A key milestone includes the demonstration of a 25MW stack using a less corrosive potassium hydroxide solution, simplifying handling and reducing safety requirements.

Bramble Energy’s PCBEL technology has met the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s 2030 targets for performance and critical raw material content.

Bramble Energy’s CEO, Tom Mason, expressed excitement about the project, emphasizing that it represents more than just a technological upgrade—it combines cutting-edge engineering with affordability and sustainability to push cost, performance, and durability limits. The company aims to scale up its electrolyser technology for large-scale commercialization. By delivering a low-cost, scalable, and reduced precious-metal solution, Bramble Energy is helping drive the clean energy transition. Its PCBEL technology has already met the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s 2030 targets for performance and critical raw material content, with a volume cost of $200/kW for AEM stacks.

Tripod Technology vice-president, Aleck Lin, highlighted the partnership as a testament to global decarbonization efforts. Tripod and Tripod Nano are committed to innovation in catalyst and membrane electrode technology, ensuring sustainable material supply for the clean energy transition. The collaboration underscores Bramble Energy’s leadership in advancing hydrogen production solutions, while Tripod Technology emphasizes its role in supporting global decarbonization goals.
