Wedoany.com Report-Nov 16, Pantheon Resources PLC spudded the Megrez-1 well to explore the eastern topsets in Ahpun field on Alaska's North Slope.
The targeted reservoir sections are both younger and shallower than in any of Pantheon's previous Alaskan wells, the company said in a mid-November release. The well will target three topset horizons, which Pantheon estimates to contain an aggregate 2U Prospective Resource of 609 million bbl of ANS Crude (oil, condensate, and NGLs) and 3.3 tcf of natural gas.
Pantheon expects that the target reservoir sections should exhibit at least an order of magnitude better permeability than Ahpun's western topsets which were logged and cored in the Pipeline State-1 well on Pantheon's acreage. The operator said it will release initial well results when drilling operations are complete.
Pantheon contracted the Nabors 105AC rig to drill Megrez-1. Construction of the gravel pad next to the Dalton Highway was completed in October, and the pad can be used year-round to support future drilling and development activities.
The existing Kodiak and Ahpun project currently covers 193,000 acres and are in close proximity to pipeline and transportation infrastructure, making development of Ahpun feasible (OGJ Online, May 1, 2024).
Pantheon Resources has 100% working interest in Kodiak and Ahpun projects.
