Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 11, The General Secretariat of the Tender Board in Oman has launched the tender process for phases three and four of the Sinaw-Mahout-Duqm road upgrade project, aimed at enhancing the nation’s transportation infrastructure. Overseen by Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT), this initiative focuses on improving connectivity across key regions.

The project spans a combined distance of approximately 132km.

Spanning a total of about 132 kilometers, the project covers two distinct sections. Phase three stretches approximately 83 kilometers from Al Jouba Roundabout in the Wilayat of Mahout to the Wilayat of Duqm. This segment features a single carriageway with two 3.75-meter-wide lanes, complemented by 2.5-meter asphalt shoulders and 2-meter gravel shoulders on each side. Additionally, a new roundabout will be constructed for Khlouf village to improve access for local communities and nearby areas, ensuring smoother traffic flow.

Phase four extends roughly 49 kilometers, starting near Sarab and ending at the boundaries of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) near Nafun. Designed to match the standards of earlier phases, this section includes a single carriageway with identical lane and shoulder specifications. To minimize disruptions, traffic will continue on existing roads during construction. Safety enhancements, such as appropriate design speeds, refined curve geometry, and lighting at critical points, will be incorporated to ensure safer travel.

These upgrades are set to improve mobility across the North Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta Governorates, fostering growth in economic, commercial, and tourism sectors. The project supports Oman’s broader goal of strengthening connections to SEZAD, a vital hub for regional development. By enhancing road infrastructure, the initiative aims to facilitate smoother transport and boost opportunities for local communities and businesses.

Earlier this year, the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate announced contracts worth OR26.3 million ($68.1 million) for various municipal projects, reflecting Oman’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure development. The Sinaw-Mahout-Duqm road project, with its focus on accessibility and safety, aligns with these efforts to promote sustainable growth and connectivity across the country.
