Wood secured a front-end engineering design contract for the Zeevonk hydrogen facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Wedoany.com Report-Feb 24, John Wood Group PLC has secured a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the Zeevonk hydrogen facility in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The project, a joint venture between Vattenfall and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), aims to contribute to both Vattenfall's net-zero targets and Europe's broader 2050 net-zero emissions goal. The Zeevonk project will utilize offshore wind and floating offshore solar power from the Zeevonk offshore developments. Wood Group said the facility will be designed to handle substantial peak demand and will integrate hydrogen production into the Hydrogen Network Rotterdam, a developing Dutch hydrogen infrastructure hub located in the Port of Rotterdam. Gerry Traynor, President of Projects Eastern Hemisphere at Wood Group, praised the design, highlighting Wood Group's expertise in large-scale green hydrogen projects, which are crucial for the world’s energy transition. Claus Vissing-Jørgensen, Project Director at Zeevonk, provided updates on project milestones, noting that the awarding of the FEED represents a significant milestone for the facility. Over the next 10 months, detailed cost estimates will be provided, and groundwork will be laid for an upcoming tender process. Wood Group has previously secured engineering contracts for other green hydrogen projects, including a battery storage facility in Scotland and a green hydrogen project in Spain.
