Wedoany.com Report-Jan 24, Oxan Energy has secured permission to build an offshore wind farm in Estonian waters following a re-run auction.
The Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) announced that the French developer is the winner of the auction for the Saare 1 area.
Oxan submitted a bid of €1.32m/MW, which was also the starting price of the auction.
Oxan can commence with the development of an offshore wind farm in the Saare 1 sea area, which is located approximately 60 km to the west of the island of Saaremaa.
The size of the area is 88 sq km.
The CPTRA is responsible for processing applications for licences and issuing building and operating permits for offshore wind farms.
At present, the CPTRA has announced the winners of four auctions for the sea area and has initiated the licence proceedings and environmental impact assessments for offshore wind farms 11 times.
The auction started on 21 January and ended on 23 January.
According to Oxan’s application its project will feature up to 60 wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 900MW.
In December 2024, the CPTRA announced it would re-run the auction for the 1GW Saare 1 offshore wind licence area in January 2025, nearly 12 months after a first attempt received no bids.
