The Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda, through ADIF, has awarded three contracts totaling €63 million for infrastructure upgrades at seven railway stations in Guadalajara, Zaragoza, and Cantabria.
Upgrades in Guadalajara
In Guadalajara, €26 million will be invested in adapting the Jadraque and Humanes de Mohernando stations along the Madrid-Barcelona conventional line. The works include extending sidings to 750 meters, modifying track layouts, removing redundant tracks, and upgrading electrification and signalling systems. Additional improvements cover the construction of underpasses, platform modifications, and installation of lighting and safety systems.
Projects in Zaragoza
A €23 million contract covers upgrades at Paracuellos-Sabiñán, Morés, and Épila stations in Zaragoza province. These stations, also on the Madrid-Barcelona line, will see similar enhancements, including siding extensions, track realignments, new safety infrastructure, and platform expansions. Each station will undergo specific adjustments to meet operational requirements while improving accessibility and safety.
Works in Cantabria
The final contract allocates €14 million to extend sidings at Cobejo and Corrales de Buelna stations on the Palencia-Santander line. The upgrades include electrification adjustments, signaling enhancements, and new sidings to improve freight operations serving the port of Santander.
European funding and broader plans
These initiatives are supported by European Union funding under the NextGenerationEU Recovery Plan. They form part of a broader investment strategy to enhance freight rail capacity across Spain, contributing to modal shift goals and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
