2025-02-21 14:30

Wedoany.com Report-Feb 21, Evergreen Marine has commissioned two shipyards in South Korea and China to build 11 LNG, dual-fueled 24,000 TEU megamax vessels.

Each ship is expected to cost between about US$265 million and US$295 million.

South Korea's Hanwha Ocean will construct six of the ships, while China's Guangzhou Shipyard International will build five.

The new orders see the Taiwan-listed shipping line to LNG from methanol dual-fuel for its next large containerships amid supply concerns for green methanol in the coming years.

The delivery date of the vessels has yet to be announced.

Evergreen has previously focused on developing methanol dual-fuel vessels to advance its sustainability initiatives.

In 2023, Evergreen Marine placed an order for 24 methanol dual-fuel containerships, each with a capacity of 16,000 TEU, from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) and Nihon Shipyard.

The contract, valued at approximately US$196 million per vessel, represented the largest order ever received by SHI at that time, totaling around US$3.11 billion for the 16 ships contracted at the Korean shipyard.
