Wedoany.com Report-Apr 1, Shin-Etsu Chemical, based in Tokyo, is planning significant investments at two of its facilities to bolster its pharmaceutical cellulose operations. The company will expand its production capabilities at two locations: SE Tylose GmbH & Co. KG in Germany and its plant in Joetsu, Niigata Prefecture, Japan.

At SE Tylose GmbH & Co. KG, a new production facility for the pharmaceutical excipient L-HPC will be constructed adjacent to an existing facility. This expansion is targeted for completion by the end of 2026, aiming to enhance production capacity and improve supply chain resilience. In Joetsu, the company will double the storage capacity of its pharmaceutical cellulose warehouse in the neighboring area. This move is expected to strengthen its ability to meet demand and prepare for unexpected situations. Both projects are part of Shin-Etsu Chemical’s broader strategy to expand its pharmaceutical cellulose business and ensure a stable supply chain.

The total investment for these projects is projected to amount to 10 billion yen. Shin-Etsu Chemical has previously announced expansions in its pharmaceutical excipient business, and this marks further progress in its goal to improve global supply systems. The company’s pharmaceutical cellulose products, derived from plant-based pulp, are widely used as tablet-coating agents and disintegrants, offering a safe and effective solution for various applications. L-HPC, a key product, has garnered attention for its ability to enhance tablet disintegration and manufacturing strength. By establishing production bases in both Germany and Japan, Shin-Etsu Chemical aims to enhance supply stability and address growing global demand for its high-quality pharmaceutical cellulose.
